Last week, my student Andrew Xu won the first place in the Senior Group at the prestigious composition competition NCMTA 2023 Young Composer Contest in North Carolina. His composition "Barcarolle" for Clarinet Quintet was judged by Dr. Tony Steve who highly evaluated Andrew's piece full of romantic mood, polyphonic technique and reach harmonies. Now Andrew is invited to participate in the winner recital on October 21st at Beckwith Recital Hall at UNC - Wilmington. I couldn't be more proud of this talented and bright person! I wish Andrew to follow his dreams in music path pursuing strong composition technique, creative harmonies and memorable melodies!
