Dear Studio Families,
I am thrilled to share some wonderful news from our studio!
This week, my composition student, Jacob Wu, proudly represented our studio and the Northern Branch of San Diego MTAC at the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) State Convention in Los Angeles. Jacob presented his original Symphony in Three Movements, an extraordinary achievement that marks an important milestone in his journey as a young composer.

I am incredibly proud that our studio was represented on this distinguished stage. Jacob’s achievement reflects years of hard work, curiosity, and artistic growth.

This opportunity was earned through dedication, perseverance, and exceptional musical accomplishment. After advancing through multiple levels of MTAC composition competitions, Jacob was selected as a winner, earning the honor of presenting his work at the MTAC State Convention—one of the highest recognitions available to young composers in California.
The MTAC State Convention has been held annually since 1911, bringing together outstanding students, teachers, composers, performers, and internationally recognized artists from across California. Every summer, thousands of attendees gather for several days of performances, presentations, masterclasses, seminars, and celebrations of musical excellence. It is one of the most prestigious educational music events in the state and showcases the very best of California’s young musicians and composers. (mtac.org)

One of the most exciting aspects of his development this year has been watching him establish his own compositional voice. Through careful study and analysis of masterworks by the great composers, alongside the exploration of contemporary music, he has begun creating music that is uniquely his own. Seeing his individual style emerge has been one of the greatest joys of teaching him.
I could not be happier with his remarkable progress, and I look forward to continuing this exciting journey together—exploring new musical ideas, writing new works, and reaching even greater artistic heights.
Congratulations, Jacob! Bravo! We cannot wait to hear the next chapter of your musical journey.
