Music Studio Pianissimo is proud to share a wonderful achievement by our young pianist Mia Zhang, who has won First Place in the 5–6 year old category at the prestigious Bay Area International Piano Competition. This victory is a remarkable milestone for such a young musician and a beautiful reflection of her talent, discipline, and musical maturity far beyond her age.
For this competition, Mia performed Berkovich’s Concerto in D Major, presenting both the second and third movements — a highly demanding repertoire choice for a pianist of her age. Her performance stood out for its confident rhythm, clear articulation, expressive phrasing, and beautiful tone. Performing two movements of a concerto requires not only technical readiness, but also musical endurance and emotional understanding, and Mia demonstrated all of these qualities impressively.

The Bay Area International Piano Competition is a respected international platform that brings together young pianists from around the world, emphasizing high artistic standards, professionalism, and musical growth. The competition evaluates performances through memory-based, unedited video submissions, ensuring fairness and authenticity, while also providing professional written feedback to support each participant’s development. Winners are officially published and invited to special showcases, making this competition not only a ranking platform but also a true educational experience.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Mia’s success is that her performance was evaluated by a jury of highly qualified international professionals — concert pianists and university-level educators with strong academic and artistic backgrounds, including connections to world-renowned institutions such as Juilliard, Yale University, Indiana University, Oberlin Conservatory, and New York University. Recognition from such a panel confirms that Mia’s performance met true international artistic standards.
As Mia’s teacher, I am incredibly proud of her — not only for winning First Place, but for her dedication, consistency, and joy in music. This achievement reflects not only her natural talent, but also her strong work ethic, her love for music, and her willingness to grow with every lesson. Mia is a beautiful example of what young students can achieve when they are guided with care, trained with strong technique, encouraged artistically, and supported emotionally.

At Music Studio Pianissimo, we believe every child deserves professional musical education in a nurturing and inspiring environment, built on international standards and individualized attention. Mia’s success is one of many stories that show how thoughtful musical training from an early age can lead to outstanding artistic results.
Please join us in congratulating Mia Zhang — First Place Winner of the Bay Area International Piano Competition (Age Group 5–6). We are proud of you and excited for the many achievements ahead!
