Inspiring Insights from the MTAC Meeting with Barbie Wong

Updated: Sep 24

I recently had the opportunity to attend a meeting with MTAC teachers where Barbie Wong delivered an inspiring lecture on encouraging practice time for students. Her insights were incredibly valuable and sparked a lot of thoughtful discussion.

Barbie emphasized the importance of cultivating our own skills as teachers to effectively motivate our students. She shared practical tips on making practice a more engaging experience, ensuring that students not only practice regularly but also see tangible progress. One of the standout points from her talk was the idea of creating a musical environment around practice, celebrating small victories, and setting achievable goals playing music together with friends that keep students excited about their musical journey.

A special thanks goes to Joanne Shots, our Nothern Brunch Manager, who organized such a wonderful meeting! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, filled with delicious snacks and coffee, which made for a perfect setting for collaboration. It was heartening to connect with fellow teachers and share resources, including books that many of us no longer use.

I left the meeting feeling inspired and reassured that I am not alone in this journey. There are so many teachers like me, always striving to find better ways to teach while being individual, creative, and responsible for each student’s progress. Barbie's lecture resonated deeply, and I’m looking forward to applying these insights with my students and their parents!

Here's to fostering a supportive community where we can all grow and thrive together!
